un_panel.jpgOn December 4th, the German organization Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) organized a conference in Mexico on Cuba. The event “Transition in Cuba: Perspectives from Latin-American and European countries,” included the participation of the Mexican parties, PRD and PAN, as well as several German politicians. The topics of the panels and presentations included: the position of the European Union vis-à-vis Cuba; the German position in relation to Cuba; and the perspectives of the Mexican political parties with regard to their vision of Mexican relations with Cuba.

 

un_panel2.jpgThe participants included Mendel Goldstein, Ambassador of the European Union in Mexico; MendePeter Weiß, representative of the CDU/CSU party of the German Bundestag; Alejandro Landero, a PAN delegate; Cristian Castaño, deputy coordinator of the PAN deputies; and Roberta Lajous, International Affairs liaison for the PRI. Julio Hernández of the MCL and José Ignacio Rasco of the Christian Democratic Party of Cuba were in attendance to present the plans for reform that exist among the Cuban opposition inside and outside the island. The previous day, KAS and the Center for Opening and Development in Latin America (CADAL) presented the inauguration of a photographic exhibition on the families of the Cuban Spring prisoners. The exhibition entitled "It is also our problem,” showed images of the wives and mothers speaking about their future.
